City Charter High School opens its doors to all area students. You DO NOT need to live in the city of Pittsburgh to attend City High. If you reside in and are registered in any area school district, you are eligible to join our unique high school experience.
Unlike traditional high schools, City Charter High School is a technology infused high school with a college and career focus. City High offers a more personalized approach to learning with its low student/teacher ratio and “looping” of teachers and students together all 4 years. Each student gets a FREE laptop an technology classes so they’re prepared to learn in-person or remotely.
Best of all, it is Tuition- Free!
Who Can Apply
City Charter High School is a tuition-free public school and is therefore open to all students regardless of race, ethnic background, gender, religion, and/or ability. As a school of choice, families have an opportunity to make an informed decision regarding the appropriateness of this and other high schools for a particular student.
In order to help families make the best decision, tours for current 7th and; 8th grade students are typically available by appointment from the beginning of October until the end of May each year. The student should accompany the parent/ guardian on the tour. During the tour, families have an opportunity to visit classrooms, receive information about the curriculum and ask questions.

To have your child’s application processed AND to receive an application number, you will need the following documents:
Two proofs of residency (both addresses must match Parent/Guardian’s CURRENT address). Acceptable forms include:
First Proof of Residence

• Vehicle Registration Card
Second proof of Residence
• Utility Bill
• Mortgage/Lease documents
• Bank/credit card statement
A copy of your child’s birth certificate
A copy of your child’s immunization record
Legal guardianship documents (If there are any)

CITY CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL is a public charter school approved by the Pittsburgh Public School (PPS) board but is not a PPS-operated school. We are self-governed with a privately elected Board. Our location in Pittsburgh still allows our students to apply for the Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship Program!
